TEIG SHADE

The shape of the curves used in this piece intentionally cast really interesting shadows on to walls and ceilings. The curve itself is based on the aesthetically-pleasing ogee curve, sometimes described as a serpentine curve or an extended-S curve.

The photographed example has mahogany-stained leather curved vertical strips with hand-stitched connections. This design can also be done with brass or copper vertical curved strips that are connected with small single metal rivets rather than hand-stitched with thread.

If the leather option is selected, the leather used will be a natural vegetable-tanned leather which is cut by hand using my own-designed templates, hand-dyed using a water-based stain, and hand-stitched for both durability and aesthetics. The leather has natural markings and characteristics that affect the thickness of the material, the absorption of the stain and the finish of the surface, all of which contributes to the beauty and individuality of each piece.

Beauty from all angles is paramount with all my designs; this piece achieves this and more, making it a real feature piece in any room.

The name 'Teig' is inspired by the undulating curves of the River Teign in Devon where I grew up, and the river itself is near where some of my family still live now.

  • MAIN MATERIALS

(A guide based on the photographed example)

Brass frame with leather strips - copper strips or brass strips are alternative options for this design at no extra cost.

  • CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Wipe clean with a dry soft cloth or light feather duster.

If you have opted for the leather strips for this shade, periodically (once a year maybe) apply a little beeswax with a cloth to the leather to help condition it and maintain its lustre.

With the metal elements and leather (if opted for) included in this piece it is not recommended for use in high-humidity areas like bathrooms or kitchens.

  • RECOMMENDED BULBS

    Maximum wattage 25W LED.

Bulbs are not included, but I would recommend an E27 LED Vintage light bulb with amber glass to compliment the design.

A lamp shade ring adaptor is provided so the 40mm fitting for E27 lamp holders can be reduced to 28mm for B22 lamp holders.

  • OPTIONS AVAILABLE

    1. As explained above, options include brass, copper or leather curved vertical strips at no extra cost. The metal strips are connected with small single metal rivets rather than hand-stitched with thread.

    2. With the leather strips, as I hand-dye them myself the colour options are vast, though with water-based stains (which I prefer as they reflect more of the true character of the leather with them being more translucent compared to leather dyes and acrylic paints) the darker colours are always more vibrant than the lighter colours, like the mahogany in the photographed example.

    3. The size of this piece can be modified to some extent to suit your needs - to commission a different size piece please contact Sarah to discuss this option further.
